Event Tuesday to honor Max Branscomb for Sunshine Week

The San Diego Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is proud to present to Max Branscomb its Sunshine Award for his years of “extraordinary effort in supporting the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, the cornerstone of our democracy.”
Sunshine Week reminds us of the importance of open access; of shining a light into government secrecy and for reminding the public of their right to government information.

National Sunshine Week has been celebrated every March since 2005, thanks to the work of the American Society of News Editors. Participants include print, broadcast and online news media, civics groups, non-profits, schools and libraries.

STOP THE PRESSES! San Diego SPJ’s annual Report Card on the Media panel discussion is Wednesday, March 5!

As always, this can’t miss panel features people who have made bold statements and even bolder headlines this past year, and allows them to roast or praise the reporters who covered them.

This year the panel includes Laura Fink, one of ex-San Diego mayor Bob Filner’s first accusers; Rachel Laing, spokeswoman for the Nathan Fletcher mayoral campaign; North County Transit District’s CEO Matthew Tucker; and Sara Britt, grandmother of the kidnapped Hannah Anderson, a case that captured headlines worldwide.

San Diego State Crisis Training Program

When: Friday, March 14, 2014 | 7-8 a.m. Breakfast Panel; 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Training Program

What: This training program will help you to learn about crisis communication strategies and resources that can be used in the event of a wildfire and other crises/disasters in the San Diego region. Those who attend will receive a packet of relevant resources and other relevant materials as well as a certificate. Guest speakers will include CalFire, East County Magazine, KPBS, and much more!
