Still need convincing? Here are our reasons you should join:
Our chapter sponsors panels, training sessions and social events that culminate in an annual awards contest and banquet.
This past year, we trained our members to cover campaigns and wildfires, encrypt email addresses, and better understand civil lawsuits and legal issues, among other professional development programs and networking opportunities. We paired “All the President’s Men” with craft beer at our first-ever movie night, hosted journalism mixers, awarded our annual Sunshine Award to Southwestern College professor Max Branscomb, recognized excellence by professional and college journalists at our banquet and gave out scholarships to three San Diego County journalism students.
We also helped local journalists and the public with First Amendment issues, promoted access to public records and government meetings, and retained a lawyer with other organizations to force the reluctant release of a college recommendation letter written by District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis for the son of a Mexican billionaire accused of illegally donating to Dumanis’ and others campaigns.
Members stay informed and in the loop on relevant subjects – and get discounted entry fees for our annual awards contest.
