Who Should Win Our Awards for Being a Window and a Wall?
San Diego SPJ is debuting two new awards to recognize the most helpful and not-so-helpful sources in 2014.
The Window Award will go to the public official or agency that most prioritized transparency and the public’s right to know in 2014.
The Wall Award will go to the public official or agency that made it hardest for journalists to do their jobs in 2014, ignoring requests or otherwise compromising the public’s right to know.

Tuesday’s panel provided a lot of new information on the San Diego Police Department’s use of body cameras.
San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman gave more details on the department’s policies for using the cameras and said she thinks the videos should not be released to the public most of the time.
