NPR White House correspondent Scott Horsley will deliver the keynote speech at the SPJ San Diego Pro Chapter’s annual awards banquet Thursday, July 8 at the Bali Hai.
Horsley, a former SPJ-San Diego board member, will come on back home to share his take on life in the White House press corps. Horsley was appointed to the White House post after showing his reporting savvy on the 2008 campaign trail, traveling extensively with Sen. John McCain to cover the Arizona senator’s bid for the presidency. He had been an NPR San Diego-based business correspondent, covering the economy and energy, and he previously helped cover the 2004 presidential campaign. He also reported from the Pentagon during the early phases of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Before joining NPR in 2001, Horsley was a reporter for member station KPBS-FM, where he received numerous honors, including a Public Radio News Directors’ award for coverage of the California energy crisis.
So, mark your calendars now for the annual awards banquet – join your colleagues and friends as we enjoy the cool bay breezes and recognize the finest in San Diego-area journalism.
