If you couldn’t make it to this year’s provocative Grade the Media panel, here are a few video clips of what our panelists had to say.
MICHAEL SHAMES, FORMER UCAN DIRECTOR
JAN CALDWELL, SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SPOKESWOMAN
DARREN PUDGIL, FORMER MAYOR SANDERS SPOKESMAN
Panelists were: former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders’ spokesman, Darren Pudgil; San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman, Jan Caldwell, and the former executive director of the Utility Consumers’ Action Network, Michael Shames. Join us as they grade the media and maybe you on all of our coverage.
Pudgil spoke about Sanders, the incoming CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, whose second term as mayor ended in December with at least one columnist calling him the best mayor the city has ever seen.
Caldwell offered here views on the widespread and sometimes bizarre media coverage of the mysterious Coronado death of Rebecca Zahau, which attracted national attention after she was found bound, naked and hanging at her boyfriend’s mansion two days after her boyfriend’s son died while under her care.
And Shames will discuss the nasty accusations and legal wrangling that embroiled the end of his long service with the well-known and influential watchdog group, which battled SDG&E, the city of San Diego and others for decades before succumbing to scandal in 2012.
