Good news! We’re extending the deadline to enter the 2012 SPJ San Diego-Area Journalism Competition by one week to 5 p.m. Friday, April 6.
All contest entries must be submitted online (except for entries in the College Media Best Newspaper category, which must be mailed and postmarked by the contest deadline). All entries must be submitted by the deadline of March 30, and payment must be made online by credit card (preferred) or by checks mailed and postmarked by Friday, March 30.

The contest recognizes the best in print, broadcast and online journalism from calendar year 2011 in 130 categories for professional and student media, plus five special awards with cash prizes: the Sol Price Prize for Responsible Journalism, the First Amendment Award, the Herbert Lockwood “Woody” Award for humor writing, the Diversity Prize, and the James Julian Memorial Award for community service reporting.
Members get a discounted entry rate of $10 per entry (compared to $30 for non-members), so be sure to join or renew your SPJ national and chapter membership now at http://www.spj.org/join.asp and have your membership number handy when you get ready to submit your entries. Students pay an entry fee of $5 per entry, regardless of whether they are SPJ members.
